Kids nowadays are always wanting to have the latest rapid fire mods and many would do anything to have their dads get them rapid fire chip.  Many parents have made video games a way of getting their kids to stay put and the modding xbox controller has become the perfect baby-sitter, letting parents get along with their lives  knowing their kids are safe at  home. Is this tendency  without consequences? Let’s consider just a few pros and cons of this new fad.

Pros

* Social factor-video games are known to help kids open up and become more sociable than they were.

* Detracts from pain- many kids with injuries or illnesses find comfort in playing video games. Its a way to take their minds off from their condition and focus on something else.

* Creativity Boost- majority of vid games involve a hind of creativity. Its a good way for kids to explore their creative side.

* Enhances Cognitive Skills- games usually have some puzzles or other forms of problem solving in them. Children are able to practice their problem solving skills and learn to think fast.

* Self Confidence- all children feel a sense of accomplishment in the games they play. They will have higher self confidence in general if they discover they are good at something even if its at video games.

Cons

* Bad for the eyes- prolonged time spent on screens destroy your vision. If a child has his vision destroyed at such an early age, he’ll suffer his whole life.

* Robs time- we all know that video games are really addictive and once kids are hooked, their schoolwork and other activities will be affected greatly. They’re childhood will be robbed of many wonderful experiences.

* It’s passive- with all the time kids spend playing, many end up becoming over weight. Fellow children love to tease obese kids and being overweight will result in other health issues.

* Money down the drain- if you think about it, all the games plus electricity used when playing amount to a lot of money. It’s money that would have been far useful somewhere else.

* Violence- today’s games aren’t innocent! Bloody violence is the main feature. Experts have proven that many hard criminals were exposed to games that portrayed violence as kids.

* Bad parenting- its a fact- parents who let the video games do the baby sitting aren’t doing their jobs. Many families lack needed communication because of these games.

There are the facts. Though video games do have their advantages, you’d want to think twice before giving in to your child’s pleas. We shouldn’t allow video games to take our place as parents.
